Zig Ziglar said, “You can have everything in life you want if you will just help other people get what they want.”
Good leaders like Zig Ziglar value relationships and he definitely spent his time and energy helping other people get what they want.
This is what I want this year:
- happiness
- good health
- time to create
- personal and professional growth
That’s really the purpose of this blog. So instead of being self-focused, worrying about the future, feeding bad habits, complaining and pouting… I write.
I want to encourage, inspire, influence and build relationships. To do this effectively I am social active in our local community and enjoy being part of a couple of groups in particular.
One group meets a few times a week to play full court basketball. This promotes good health, reduces stress, builds comradery and strengthens relationships. There have been times when someone is going thru a rough period and its the relationships with the other men in the group that help that person get thru.
I remember a guy in the group whose son committed suicide. Several of the guys showed up to the funeral to support our friend and it had a huge impact on him. Another guy’s wife got breast cancer so we circled up and prayed over him and his family.
The other group I’m a part of is a professional group. We meet once a week and pass business to each other thru referrals. The motto of the group is “givers gain” and everyone strives to treat their relationships that way. Check out BNI to learn more about how you can be a part of this group.
I’m also involved with the Abilene Chamber of Commerce. This group encourages and helps local business thrive and grow thru networking events and giving back to the community.
What do you want this year? What steps are you going to take to achieve it?
Who can you help get what they want so you can get what you want?
My charge to you is every day wake up and look for ways to help others get what they want.
They may need lower electricity bills, a roof that doesn’t leak, or just a roof over their head.
They may want a safe vehicle to drive, a security system for their house, or a meal to feed their family.
I think if I help people get what they want, I’ll get what I want. Happiness, good health, time to create, and I will grow personally and professionally.
